The challenge

Taking the cooling and ventilation piping of a research reactor to detailed design under high-integrity requirements, verifying every line against internal pressure, thermal transients, self-weight, dynamic loads and seismic events, with a remote team able to sustain delivery pace for close to a year.

Scope

  • Complete 3D model with clash detection
  • Layouts: plans, elevations, sections and details
  • Isometric booklet by line, with spools and SHOP and FIELD welds
  • Stress models per system: pressure, temperature, thermal expansion, self-weight and client-specified seismic loads
  • Support location and verification, stress report and identification of overstress points
  • BOM and Support List reconciled against the model

How we worked

Cross review before every issue. No deliverable went out without a second designer.

Change traceability. Every correction was recorded on the revision file.

Standardised extraction. Isometrics and BOM were generated through a single procedure.

Result

Delivered within plan

Complete fabrication documentation and stress reports fit for the project's regulatory file, with quality acknowledged by the client at the closeout meeting.
